Saltwhistle Top by Love Notions
I live in jeans and tops, and I love something that’s a bit fancier than a standard tee. The Saltwhistle top from Love Notions definitely fits the bill.
It has cute puffed sleeves, elastic waist (I LOVE clothes that come in at the waist) and a fun scalloped hem, for something a little different. The square neckline is a nice detail too.
The fabric I used was a teal ghost crepe from Lush Fabrics. I must have got it in a mystery bundle, but I love the colour. It’s a little awkward to sew with – somehow it’s both slippery and grippy at the same time, so can be difficult to get the fabric to line up (and stay in position). I recommend using pins rather than clips when sewing with this fabric!
I would rate the pattern as adventurous beginner to intermediate. There is gathering (in the sleeve and waist), plus the square neckline and scalloped hem add a small amount of challenge (but nothing too tricky if you take care). The pattern instructions have lots of details with line drawings of each step.
Overall, I’m really happy with my top and will get lots of wear out of it! It’s a great day-to-night option – looks good with jeans but would look more dressed up with the right pair of black pants.
Other options include sleeveless and ruffle sleeves, and there are two knee-length dress versions – a single layer and three-layered version.
I was a pattern tester for this pattern.
