September Sewing Frenzy Challenge

I’m annoyed with myself. I have so many things I want to sew.

I buy the patterns. I buy the fabric.

And then…

I repair my husband’s cycling gloves and hem my son’s pants.

And then, I buy more patterns and more fabric.

I just never seem to get around to sewing all the fun things I want to sew. Or even the things I need to sew, like new pajamas for my kids.

It’s time for a sewing challenge:

What is the September Sewing Frenzy Challenge?

The challenge has two parts:

Sew every day for the month of September for at least 10 minutes. (Well, in 2024, I’m starting the challenge on 7th September, so I’m going to sew every day from now on…)
See how many items I can sew in a month.

That’s it. Simple!

How do I join in?

Just get sewing. Feel free to share what you’ve made on social media using the hashtag #SeptemberSewingFrenzy (but you don’t have to!). I would love it if you tagged @Threadistry and/or #Threadistry (but again, you don’t have to!).

Organise your sewing with the best sewing planners, from bullet journals to hard cover journals, pdf printable templates to an online sewing database.

Frequently Asked Questions

(There are no frequently asked questions since I just created this challenge, but here are some questions I made up!)

Does mending count?

For me, mending doesn’t count, because I don’t put it off that much. Usually I just want it out of my sewing room so I get it done. But if your mending pile is building up and you procrastinate your mending, then feel free to include it.

Does cutting out fabric, or cutting and taping patterns count?

Yes! Any tasks that physically get you sewing up an item count. Scrolling Facebook, buying more patterns and buying more fabric don’t count (unless you genuinely need don’t have a fabric stash (?!?) or don’t have all the supplies you need for a project).

Is there a hashtag?

Share your progress on social media with the hashtag #SeptemberSewingFrenzy.

Can I sew clothes/kitchen items/cushions/quilt/underpants for bats?

You can sew

whatever you want,
whatever you need,
whatever you’ve been putting off.
