Best tips for finding time to sew
When I ask people what their biggest struggle with sewing is, a common answer is finding time to sew.
We lead busy lives with lots of responsibilities, and then there’s the million and one distractions that can eat up our time before we know it.
There are so many benefits to sewing, but it’s so easy to push it down the priority list. Especially when sewing time is “Me time”. It can feel selfish to make it a priority when there are so many other things to do.
So I asked the followers on my Facebook page what their tips are for finding time to sew (knowing the irony that Facebook is probably one of the biggest time-sucks that eats into people’s sewing time!).
Here is some of the best advice:
Schedule it
Putting sewing on the calendar is a popular way to make sure you find time, even if it’s a small amount of time. (Sometimes once you start, you can’t stop!)
I love sewing a make time for it. Just say to yourself and set aside one day a week and stick to it

I put sewing on my schedule even if it’s only for a half an hour at a time. Some days I don’t have time to sew but most days I can put it in my schedule.

I work from home so I sew a few minutes before signing on to work

Joining a sewing group is another way to get sewing on the calendar. Some libraries and community centers have local sewing groups. They can be purely social where you can sew whatever you want, or may be linked to sewing particular items for charity.
Reduce Distractions
Turn off or discipline self to limit screen time. Big time burner

Don’t bother to clean the house or cook meals or do laundry….just sew!

If you find yourself wasting time on Facebook or other websites, there are apps you can install to limit how long and when you can access these websites. I use StayFocused on my phone to stop my mindless scrolling.
Make it easy to start
It helps if you have a designated sewing area so you don’t have to drag everything out and put it up every time you want to sew. It doesn’t have to be a whole room. I have my area set up in the corner of the main room so I can be with my other half when he is watching tv

I put my sewing area in the main room so I can sew when my guy and I are watching TV. I used to have a separate sewing room and was always feeling like I should be spending more time with my family. So I decided to incorporate my sewing area into the main family area. I decided our home was for us and not for show and it works for me

Just sew it!
You will and can always make time for sewing if you really wanted to…

Just take the time…otherwise, life in all of its chaos and randomness will eat it up and you will never have any free time.
