When my son was born, at the last minute, he decided he didn’t want to come out but it was too late for that. My obstetrician ended up using a ventouse (suction cap) to pull him out. This left him with a strange-shaped skull for a few days – he looked like a Conehead (do you remember that movie?).  While his head returned to a normal shape quickly, for a few days, he looked cutest with a baby hat.

While traditionally, babies wore hats as there were concerns about the baby being able to regulate their temperature, these days it’s not considered necessary unless the temperature is very cold or they are out in the sun.

But babies just look so cute in a sweet little baby hat (and so much more if it’s a handmade one!).

Baby hats are best made with a soft fabric with some stretch. Jersey is a great choice, and it comes in a wide range of colours. There are a lot of cute jersey prints available nowadays too.

So if there’s a baby on the horizon in your life (whether yours, a friend or family member), so up a cute baby shower gift with these baby hat sewing patterns.
