From Casual to Chic: Best Twist Top Sewing Patterns
So, I’m all about the jeans and T-shirt life. Super comfy, right? But plain tees can be a bit, well, meh (as my teenage son would say).
I’m always on the hunt for something a bit more stylish. Something with a twist. Literally! I love tops that have that cool twist detail that gives them that extra bit of style. And whilst looking fancy, they’re surprisingly easy to sew.
Here are my top picks for twist top sewing patterns:

Neckline Twist sewing patterns
Linda Twist Top by Sinclair Patterns
The Linda Twist Top has a fun twist detail at the neckline. It’s a semi-fitted T-shirt style, that has a lovely shape. The pattern comes with petite, regular and tall size options (and I love the fit of the tall sizing!).

Arwen Halter Twist Top by Theblankk
The Arwen twist top is such a classy and elegant style, perfectly for a date night top in summer! It’s designed for light- to medium-weight woven fabrics.
Zakopane Top by Itch to Stitch
Another cute top with a neckline twist is the Zakopane Top. It has a deep V shape, and includes short and long sleeve options.
Azalea Knot Top by Sinclair Patterns
The Azalea Top has a gorgeous flowy front detail (which is a a knot rather than a twist, but I still think it fits with the theme!). It has sleeveless, short, elbow, 3/4 or long sleeve options.
(I bought this pattern a while ago and haven’t sewn it up yet, but really should!)
Top sewing patterns with a waist twist
Nova Top by Designer Stitch
The Nova Top (and dress) has a fun split below the waist knot/twist. The high neckline makes it a very elegant style (and there’s a turtleneck option too, that would be great for colder weather).
(This is another in my collection of patterns that I’ve bought but not yet sewn!)
Heart and Soul Twist Top and Dress by Ellie & Mac
The Heart and Soul Twist Top has some gorgeous sleeve options. Choose the right fabric for a fancy occasion or keep it simple for everyday wear. So pretty!
Nyoka Top by Sinclair Patterns
The Nyoka top has a crossover front, so not quite a twist or knot, but I still love it as a t-shirt with fancy extra details!
See my version here.
Tali Blouse by Designer Stitch
The Tali Blouse is a collared shirt with a twist (I couldn’t decide if this was a waist or bust twist!). The pattern is designed for lightweight woven fabric, and has bishop and traditional shirt sleeve options. It would be perfect for the office, or a night out with a slinkier fabric!
Bust twist top sewing patterns
Knot Your Average Shirt by 5 out of 4
The Knot Your Average Shirt definitely fits in the category of comfy T-shirt with a bit of flair. I love wearing this tee! The pattern includes an underlayer nursing option, maternity modifications and lots of sleeve options.
Colette Tube Top by Paige’s Pattern
The Colette Tube Top is a strapless twist top option that is so pretty (not my style these days, but younger me would have loved it!)
Twist Front Crop Top by June Pattern Studio
Another in the younger twist top category is the Twist Front Crop Top. The puff sleeves are so cute. I can see this being a festival favorite.
Hem-twist top sewing patterns
Nottingham Top by Itch to Stitch
The first hemline twist top option is the Nottingham Top. A standard tee at the top turning into something special at the hip.
Knoxville Top by Pattern Niche
The Knoxville Top is a similar option, with a looser fit at the hem, but just as pretty!
Lotus Blossom Blouse by Love Notions
The Lotus Blossom Blouse is a loose and flowy top, with a simple dolman sleeve. It is such a quick sew!
Twist It Up Top by Ellie & Mac
The Twist It Up Top has cowl and regular neckband options with a centered twist know at the hem. Size up to make it more of a sweater!
Twist-back top sewing patterns
Twist Back Top by Patterns for Pirates
If you’re wanting simple from the front but with a twist in the back, try this top from Patterns for Pirates. You could also use it to show off the back details of a fun workout bra.
Gemma Twist Top by Designer Stitch
The Gemma Twist top has options for the twist at the front or the back. This is another gorgeous pattern that could go from day to night, depending on your choice of fabric.
I’ve already sewn a few of these patterns, and have a few more in my patterns to sew pile. A few more may be added to my pattern collection soon!
